In the Land of This or That, everything is one thing or another — black or white, day or night, hot or cold. Then Neither hatches — not quite one thing, not quite the other. Neither doesn't belong anywhere until they find a place that welcomes both, and then everything. Anderson uses the simplest possible visual language — bold shapes, clean colors — to make the most expansive argument: that not fitting a category is not a problem to be solved but a self to be claimed. The picture book that most gently and completely makes the case for the existence of the in-between.
