Red, White & Royal Blue(2023)
dir. Matthew López
A prince, a president's son, and one truce.
Where to watch: Streaming on Amazon Prime VideoLetterboxd ↗
A public feud between the US president's son and a British prince gets papered over with a staged truce for the cameras — until the fake friendship becomes a real, and politically inconvenient, romance. Adapted from Casey McQuiston's novel.
Why it’s here
Punk in imagining a queer romance where the stakes are political power rather than survival — being out doesn't end anyone's future here, it complicates a diplomatic photo op. Pedagogical in showing coming out as compatible with public office and royal duty, not disqualifying for either.
